This ketubah by Patty Shaivitz Leve, is richly illuminated with symbolic images. Grapes represent fertility and sanctity. The eighteen flowers convey a blessing to the new couple for a long and full life together, and the buds represent new beginnings. The arch over the text portrays a gateway to the new life that the bride and groom are embarking upon.
The quote from Song of Songs, “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine,” is the declaration of eternal faith and love between husband and wife. Surrounding the outside of the border, in micrography, are verses about love and commitment from Song of Songs, Hoshea, and the seven blessings recited at the wedding ceremony.
